Bry woke up on Friday and these were the first words out of his almost 8 year old mouth: "Mom could you make me some coffee?".
No joke. I asked what on earth he would want coffee for and he said he was so tired he needed some cafine to help him wake up. First it was electronics and now our kids are passing us by in acquiring a taste for beverages. What's next?
Today I put water in a clear glass pitcher with some MINT from my herb garden to try to be fancy for our dinner guests. Tonight while I was cleaning the kitchen DJ came in and asked for a drink of water. She said, "Can I have some water but just without the PARSLEY". ...so much for being fancy!
Elle is just as funny as the other two but in a "you had to be there" kind of way. She doesn't say a lot of funny things but she is hilarious to watch. Like when she dances to a slow song and sways back and forth so slowly that she barely keeps her balance. Or when she sings "patty cake" and then laughs at herself because she knows she's being cute.
Cal and I are both trying to do a better job these days of just slowing down, reducing our commitments outside our home and making time to just be with our kids. We're getting better at listening to their (sometimes long) stories and descriptions of things that are special to them. We're savoring each day with them because we're realizing it just goes so fast. Our hope is that by listening to them and building trust now, they'll want to talk with us when they're teens and adults. Maybe we're (FINALLY) growing up a little bit. Thank goodness for grace!
Bry turns 8 in less than 2 weeks. Half way to driving! Where does it go?
