Bryant asked in December if he could get baptized. We were a little surprised because this was not something that either Caleb or I had ever approached him about. We really wanted that to be his own decision and not something that we suggested or encouraged. We felt, especially at such a young age, it needed to be his very own desire and decision. He recently came to that decision and we were so thrilled that he did. One of the children in our small group was recently baptized and when Bry heard about it, he wanted to take that next step in his faith too.
The pastor asked all friends and family to stand in support of Bryant. I stood with others who love our boy and watched him from the congregation. I couldn't hold back the tears. He looked so small and young up there. Eight people were baptized in all on Sunday. At Riverbluff, the one getting baptized dips their finger into salt and then tastes it. Then the pastor says something like "just like that salt created a change in your mouth that you can't ignore, so will you make a change in the world." He also said, "Do you like salt on your french fries?"....."Well just like salt makes french fries taste better, you're going to make the world a better place." Then he lit a candle and sent Bryant out with the candle and told him he was the light of the world and told him to not let anyone put his light under a basket.
I know as Bryant grows, he will understand this decision more and more over the years. I truly believe though, that Bryant understands his commitment to follow Christ and live his life in a way that honors God, as much as a 7 year old boy can. It is something he genuinely desires and that to me is very humbling as a parent.
Thanks to all of you who stood up for Bryant on Sunday. Thanks also, to the many people who weren't there on Sunday because you live all over the U.S. but have stood up for him countless times in prayer. Please continue to lift Bryant up in prayer as he continues on his young walk of faith. Our hope for him (and his sisters) is that he will love the Lord with all his heart, mind, soul and strength and that he would love his neighbor as himself. We pray that God would unfold great plans for his life and use him in a mighty way.
Feel free to leave a comment for Bryant and we will be sure he sees them.

Bryant,
What a sweet joy you are to your mom and dad, and what a great privilege it has been to be a part of your lives. Please know that we are praying for you as you learn to walk day by day with the Lord. I know you are going to have such a great impact for the Kingdom, and you have such wonderful models to direct your path in your parents. You are going to touch so many lives, and I am excited to see what awesome things God has planned for you. I can already see your Mommy's wise and gentle heart in you, and I know you are going to use that to share Jesus!
We love your family very much, and feel blessed to have been able to share life with you. That first night you guys came to dinner, I had no idea how the Lord was going to us all of you in our lives. No matter any distance that may one day come between us, please know we will always be praying for you.
We were honored to stand for you, Bryant. I pray one day you guys will be able to stand for Hannah. I can only imagine the joy your parents have in knowing you are a child of God!

I was really looking forward to baptizing you. Who knew I'd get sick??? Anyway, I was standing up behind the stage when you were baptized. I thank God for you and your wonderful parents. God bless you, buddy.

Bry,
you are sooo cool!!! I am so excited for you, almost as much as when your mom called me at Grand Canyon and told me you had given your life to Jesus.

Dear Bryant:
After Jesus was baptised (Matt 3) a voice came from heaven saying 'This is My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.' You, too, are a beloved son - of God, of your parents - and we, too.
May you walk with Jesus all your life.
Love Jim & June

Hey Bry Guy,
What a young man you are. We are so proud of you. Granny wrote something the other day and then I messed it up and couldn't send it. I'll try again.
What a strong sweet Christian spirit you have and what a witness and leader you will be for those 2 sisters of yours. We always knew you were a strong personality for Jesus when you were always witnessing to your friends. Keep on loving Jesus, He'll always be there for you.
We love you so much and are so very proud of you, we only wish we could have been there to stand for you.
Our prayers are always with you and your family B-Man,
Love Granny and Pops
Bryant,
I am so glad that I had the opportunity to stand with you during your baptism. What an exciting day. I hope you always remember how wonderful it feels to stand before others and tell them you love Jesus and that you will always continue to do so. Ted wishes he could have been there with you in person, know that he was thinking of you.

Bryant,
We too like so many others stood up to commit to pray for you as you grow in your walk with Christ. I pray regularly for all of the kids in our small group and that God guides you to be in the world but not of it as you all grow. It's a mighty task, but you are a mighty kid in Christ!
